Hankey students get exemplary education!

As many of you know, CUSD has charged our school community with raising funds to pay for our International Baccalaureate (IB) program. IB is a world-renowned educational curriculum that exceeds the academic requirements of California. Because of our IB program, Hankey students get fields of study that other CUSD schools do not, including:

  • music appreciation
  • foreign language
  • visual/performing arts
  • technology
  • physical education

IB is extraordinary but it isn’t free. It costs us nearly $100,000 a year to pay for these extra subjects and the teachers and training they require.

It’s up to us, the Carl Hankey community, to cover these costs.

Please make your donation today. We are asking for $103 per student, and we’ve made it easy to give. Just click the “Donate” tab and pay with Paypal or via your credit card. Do it today to ensure quality education for our kids.

CHIEF – 501(c)3 Corporation announcement

Carl Hankey International Education Foundation (CHIEF) is proud to announce that we have gained our Not-For-Profit status as a 501(c)3 Corporation, thanks to the countless hours of our law firm, Dorsey & Whitney. CHIEF was established to support the IB Program at Carl Hankey K-8, providing oversight, collecting and managing contributions from individuals and organizations, and educate the community at large about IB at Hankey.
GET INVOLVED! Being IB means more than just taking an IB unit off the shelf. It involves the rigorous practice of integrated, inquiry-based thinking for not only the students, but the parents and community, as well. We need your support in many ways – time, money, talent, encouragement and leading by example.
To volunteer, please contact Tara Hamby at tara_hamby@hotmail.com or by calling (949) 525-5266. We have many areas where we need volunteers, including:

• Fall Gala Event
• Fundraising Underwriting Campaign to the Business Community
• Grant Writing
• Recycling Program
• Community Outreach Program
• Cataloguing Resource Library
• Hawk Trot Event
• Corporate Matching Donations
• Educate the Community
• Media, Website and Public Relations

… and much, much more.

As we move through the candidate stage, you are needed now more than ever to help “Create A World Of Possibilities” for your kids!

Hankey K-8 IB Candidacy

Do you know how unique Hankey’s K-8 Program is?

Carl Hankey’s K-8 IB Program is the only self funded Public K-8 International Baccalaureate in Orange County. It is also the only locally funded public program in the state. What that means is:

Carl Hankey families pay all of the financial costs of this program. CUSD has given its permission forHankey K-8 to pursue IB, but does not pay for any IB costs.

It costs our learning community over $40,000 a year to build and maintain this well respected international educational program. The cost breakdown for the program is:

  • $20,000 in yearly program fees for both schools. This gets us access to IB materials, access to staff development programs and pays for school site reviews
  • $9,000 for IB Conferences and teacher staff development
  • $3,000 Art Masters
  • $3,000 for the middle school technology curriculum
  • $10,000 for curriculum writers and grade/ dept. team coaching

Our major fundraiser for these funds is the IB Hawk Trot!

How you can help?

Please support our fundraiser with whatever amount you can contribute. Our Hawk Trot targets somefunding levels, but if you can give more, please do.

Also, please start asking your students about the IB Learner Profile we are learning in class. It helps reinforce the development of our IB community and culture while helping our academic community takeits first steps into a much bigger world.

The IB Learner Profile

  • Inquirers
  • Knowledgeable
  • Thinkers
  • Communicators
  • Principled
  • Open-minded
  • Caring
  • Risk-takers
  • Balanced
  • Reflective

Go Hawks!
