Carl Hankey K-8 School Hosts Annual Fundraiser to Support International Baccalaureate Curriculum

Mission Viejo school hopes to raise thousands needed to meet criteria of  world-renowned program

Mission Viejo, Calif., Nov. 5, 2014 — Carl Hankey K-8 School, Orange County’s only K-8 public International Baccalaureate (IB) school, has announced the sixth annual Hawk Trot jog-a-thon to support its rigorous and internationally acclaimed IB educational program. The event, hosted by the Carl Hankey International Education Foundation, will take place today, Wednesday, Nov. 5.

The Hawk Trot will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Cordova Park next to the school at 27252 Nubles in Mission Viejo.

A key element to the school’s fundraising success is the continued support of BP. BP’s corporate matching program encourages employees to donate to non-profit charities and has committed again this year to match the school’s donations dollar-for-dollar up to $35,000.

BP has a long standing relationship with the School and has donated more than $150,000 to the IB program since 2009. Through the generosity of BP employees Dianne Holman, Jason Tate, Kevin Topdjian, Neda Navabha, Travis Ehlinger, Jennifer Owen, and Lisa Richardson, Carl Hankey School will receive much needed and necessary funds to support the rigorous IB program for the next school year.

In addition to supporting the school through monetary donations, BP has also sponsored the attendance of 2008 Summer Olympic champion, Bryan Clay as their special guest and motivational speaker.

“We cannot express how much we appreciate the support we have received from BP over the years,” said Carl Hankey Principal Dana Aguilera. “With their investment, the students at Carl Hankey School are enjoying a world-class education that instills the skills and knowledge to succeed in the 21st century, both in their local community and in the wider world. We are pleased to be able to offer this degree of education in a public school setting.”
